Bethesda’s pre-E3 hype continues to build, with the excitement relating to 2017’s popular first-person horror shooter Prey this time around. Although the game hasn’t been in the spotlight for some time, a recent update made to the title has reinvigorated rumors of an expansion announcement at E3. Twitter user RobotBrush discovered that Prey has recently had 10 new Steam achievements added to the game, implying that new content is coming quickly.
Each of Prey‘s 10 new achievements has a single word associated with it, which when grouped together form a line of lyrics from a notable REM song. That song, which won’t surprise any Prey fans at this point, is “Man on the Moon” and the lyrics are as follows: ” If you believed they put a man on the Moon.”
The song is referencing a conspiracy theory regarding the first Moon landing being faked, or maybe it’s about Andy Kaufman faking his death in 1984, but either way, it wasn’t originally written by the band to have anything to do with Prey. Nevertheless, the use of the lyrics by Prey‘s developers is almost certainly pointing to the Moon being the location of the game’s upcoming content.
Fans may recall that this isn’t the first time Prey post-launch content has been teased. The official Prey Twitter account posted a tweet in early March with the message, “Do we really know what’s out there?” The attached teaser GIF showed off a view of the moon from Prey in-game.
With just over three weeks left until E3 begins, Bethesda is very much rolling out its marketing campaigns for the event. Rage 2 is an obvious example of the company ramping up promotion, with the game having been announced and unveiled last week. It makes a lot of sense that with Rage 2 announced, Bethesda would move onto teasing or revealing some of the other announcements that are planned for E3.
Bethesda clearly has big things planned for E3 this year, and a Prey expansion set on the Moon, perhaps even available the day of the announcement, would fit in perfectly with other announcements such as the rumored sci-fi RPG Starfield. Those looking forward to Bethesda’s E3 press conference should know that it starts on Sunday, June 10.
Prey is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
