One of Sony’s strengths with the PlayStation 4 is with its first party studios and the content they create. Last year alone saw mega-hits like Horizon: Zero Dawn and 2018 is already starting off with a bang thanks to the remastered version of Shadow of the Colossus and the latest chapter in the long-running God of War franchise. While there’s still a lot of first party games without solid release dates, fans finally know when they can start swinging around New York in Insomniac’s highly anticipated title, Spider-Man.
After revealing the latest Game Informer cover yesterday, the online magazine finally revealed that Spider-Man is launching exclusively on the PlayStation 4 starting on September 7, 2018. While that’s only a few months away and is still technically summer, comments left by fans under the Twitter post reveal a fanbase that apparently expected to see the game sooner. As of right now, September is fairly open, though with Red Dead Redemption 2, a new Battlefield, Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 now creeping into October, and other unannounced titles, the landscape is going to get crowded pretty quickly.

While the May magazine promises lots of additional details and insights, the post went on to reveal a few previously unknown details regarding the open world title. In addition to tackling missions and other side content, Spider-Man has a progression system that provides new abilities and upgrades through leveling up. In addition, the game features a crafting system, which enables players to create new suits including many outfits that span the entire course of Spider-Man’s long comic history.
In addition to the release news, new gameplay has also emerged which also shows off a few HUD elements as well. The biggest aspect of this 1-minute clip is just how fast and fluid the combat and web swinging is. During combat, players are able to seamlessly switch between melee, webs, environmental interactions, as well as gadgets. World traversal has also been a focus, giving players plenty of options including wall running, web zipping, traditional swinging, and other fluid movements to get players to where they need to be quickly.
