Without a doubt, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is one of the world’s most popular titles out right now, as the game recently managed to surpass more than 5 million players on the Xbox One alone, with there also still being a plethora of PC players enjoying the release. Of course, PUBG‘s creators would obviously like to expand its reach and cater to as many gamers as possible. With this being the case, PUBG Corp. and the Chinese publisher Tencent have now made the title available on iOS and Android devices in “many” regions around the world, including the United States.
For those unaware, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds was already available in this iteration in Asia for quite some time, and then the title made its way to Canada last week, so its release for iOS and Android in the US will surely please those living stateside who exclusively game on mobile devices. Interested parties would do well to note that mobile PUBG is similar in construction to the original PC build, as the battle royale-styled gameplay remains intact, but fans will only have access to the first map.
Additionally, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds for iOS and Android is being introduced as a free-to-play version, which is no doubt being done in a bid to compete with Epic Games’ recent successful launch of Fortnite Battle Royale for mobile Apple devices. In order to further promote PUBG mobile’s launch, Tencent vice president Chen Jerry said, “We are working hard to create an authentic PUBG mobile experience that players new and old will love. A lot of went into controls and optimization to give players a smooth and intuitive experience.”
All things considered, it will be interesting to see how well PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds for mobile fares in the marketplace against Fortnite‘s mobile version, especially since the former title now has the edge on the latter by releasing an Android port, which the Epic Games-developed release currently lacks. PUBG is already the third-highest grossing Steam game, so it stands to reason that the battle royale title will rake in even more revenue with its mobile ports.
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is available now for PC and Xbox One, as well as Android and iOS devices.
