This year’s Pokemon Day is right around the corner, and to celebrate the occasion, Snapchat and The Pokemon Company have teamed up to bring users an official Pokemon Snapchat Lens featuring Bulbasaur.
Pokemon Day kicks off on February 27, 2018, and commemorates the launching of the first Pokemon games in Japan in 1996. The Pokemon Company typically celebrates with themed events and new products, but this year they’re trying something a little different by getting Snapchat into the mix. The new Bulbasaur filter will only be available for a few days and will enable users to summon a Razor Leaf effect when they open their mouths.
Bulbasaur appears to be a running theme, as Pokemon GO might also be featuring the little critter as the focus of the game’s March Community Day this year. A leaked piece of promo art was recently posted on Reddit and prominently features Bulbasaur in a Community Day frame. The image was discovered on developer Niantic’s website, but it was pulled down shortly after.
It hasn’t been officially confirmed, so fans are currently debating on what the event could have in store. Some are confident that shiny Bulbasaurs will soon be roaming the game, while others don’t believe the Pokemon deserves to be the focus of the Community Day event. There are even players who think the event may feature all original generation 1 starter Pokemon. Fans should get their answer soon, however, as March is fast approaching and an official announcement can’t be far away.
In addition to new events, March will also bring one of the most bizarre and interesting Pokemon games ever released, Detective Pikachu, stateside. The game centers on a young boy who teams up with a talking Pikachu as they go around solving puzzles. It was recently announced that the accompanying Detective Pikachu Amiibo will unlock cutscenes faster for players, a feature that aids them in solving the game’s many puzzles.
