Destiny 2 Raid Boss Beat Without Using Damage Mechanic

Destiny 2 Raid Boss Beat Without Using Damage Mechanic

A team of Destiny 2 players successfully defeated Calus, the Leviathan raid’s final boss, while bypassing a major part of the fight. To be specific, the raid team was able to defeat Calus without using the plates that kick off the damage phase of the fight. And they did so using a small trick.

It was accomplished by Indica, who has also overcome numerous feats in Destiny 1 and Destiny 2. The full run of the “No Plate Calus Kill” can be seen below:

The trick is activated during the skulls phase in the spirit realm. Just before the skulls start spawning, one of the players in the throne room kills himself on purpose. Doing so manipulates the number of skulls spawning in the spirit realm so that the players shooting skulls are able to rack up the Force of Will buff. This is very important because the team needs a very high Force of Will buff in order to properly damage Calus.

Without standing on the plates, the Force of Will buff disappears once all players return to the throne room; however, when Calus’ shield is knocked off, there’s a small amount of time when he is susceptible to damage. That is when Indica and his teammates hit Calus with Celestial Nighthawk-buffed Golden Gun shots to take a chunk off his health.

Destiny 2 Leviathan raid boss Calus backstory

It’s not a very efficient way to take out Calus, but following that same method for multiple rounds will slowly chip away at the boss’ health. Add to it that there is no enrage mechanic during the Calus fight, which allows for creative, slow-but-steady methods for taking out the Leviathan’s final boss. Even so, it only seems possible to get the job done with Golden Gun Hunters; any other subclass would take hours to get the job done.

This is just another example of something that has been quite common among Destiny players since the first game; that is, players challenging themselves to overcome the games’ obstacles in creative and harder-than-normal ways. There’s little doubt that trend will continue.

Destiny 2 is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
