Next PS4 Update Taking Sign Ups

Just a few months ago, Sony Interactive Entertainment officially approved and sent out the PS4‘s Update 5.0 for all users, followed by the console’s current firmware of 5.03, and now it looks as if the next major update for the system, version 5.50, will soon enter its testing phase. As a matter of fact, Sony has now officially announced that it is accepting sign ups from fans looking to take part in the console’s next system software beta.

According to Sony, PS4 owners in Europe, Japan, and North America—including Canada for the first time—can sign up for the system’s 5.50 beta now, with Japanese fans having until next Tuesday, January 23, 2018 to do so. PlayStation fans in the West, however, can sign up for the test anytime between now and when the beta actually begins in February, as long as they’re 18 years of age or older.

As of now, Sony has yet to divulge exactly what the contents of the PS4’s version 5.50 firmware update will contain, but the company has promised to share more information about the test at a later date. Beta testers for the PS4’s previous software update received a preview of features such as Family on PSN, friend list management, improvements to the message system, and much more, but unfortunately, there’s no telling what will be available to try out this time around.

For those out of the more than 70 million PSN users who sign up for the PS4’s Update 5.50, it’s important to note that one can always roll back to the most recent system software at any time if they have issues with the firmware in its beta state. What’s more is that fans who apply to the 5.50 test can also choose if they want to be automatically enrolled in future firmware betas without having to register each time. Doing so will net fans an exclusive PlayStation Network avatar, which might act as a solid incentive for some.

The PS4‘s Update 5.50 beta begins in February 2018.
