As if it need to be said, both Call of Duty: WW2 and Destiny 2 were two of the most highly anticipated games to launch last year, with first-person shooter fans showing up in droves to play the titles upon release. Now, Sony Interactive Entertainment has confirmed the sequels’ popularity on its current generation console by revealing that both of the aforementioned Activision-published properties were the two most-downloaded PS4 games for 2017.
Due to Call of Duty: WW2 and Destiny 2‘s mass appeal and extensive global reach, it won’t be too surprising for many gamers to learn that they rank as the top downloads for PS4 in 2017. The rest of the list, however, could be seen as having some unexpected titles, especially when one considers that three of them didn’t even release in 2017. Plus, it’s interesting to see that the list doesn’t consist of any PlayStation exclusives beyond Horizon: Zero Dawn.
Call of Duty: WW2 and Destiny 2 not only dominated Sony’s list for the PS4’s most-downloaded games for 2017, but also the two titles showed up in the top three spots for last year’s most-downloaded add-ons. To be specific, Destiny 2‘s Expansion Pass took the number two slot, while Call of Duty: WW2‘s Season Pass wound up ranking third on the PS4 add-on list. Perhaps most interestingly, though, is Black Ops 3‘s Zombies being the top-downloaded PS4 add-on of 2017.
All things considered, while the quality of some of the content in PS4’s most-downloaded items for 2017 is up for debate, it’s safe to presume plenty of folks would agree that 2017 was chock full of great games, especially for PlayStation. So, although Call of Duty: WW2 and Destiny 2 might not be everyone’s cup of tea, their financial successes last year on Sony’s latest system definitely proves their staying power.
Call of Duty: WW2 and Destiny 2 are available now for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
