The final week of Destiny 2’s annual winter event known as The Dawning has begun. With a new year also here, players have begun to wonder what’s next for Destiny 2. The game was never in short supply of controversy over its first three months, with Eververse recently leading the charge much of the unique Dawning gear being locked behind a paywall and randomized engrams. Things continued to spiral downwards for the game recently after fans discovered that the game also places a hidden restriction on the amount of glimmer players could accumulate, which harkened back to a similar issue with XP a month earlier.
Bungie recently acknowledged fans’ frustrations as player support member dmg04 posted a note on Twitter about the team continuing to look at player data in regards to Eververse, Mayhem, endgame content, and more. Destiny community manager, David “Deej” Dague, also took to Twitter to wish people a Happy New Year and also confirm that the studio had a lot to talk about with fans in 2018. The vague note drew all sorts reactions from those feeling optimistic to frustrated fans as well. While Destiny 2 does have another expansion arriving in a few months, most are hoping that Bungie has more to say about the current state of the game.
Until then, however, the new year has also ushered in a brand new weekly reset for Destiny 2. Here’s the complete guide to all of the new content and milestones waiting to be completed in the next seven days including the Nightfall, Flashpoint, and everything else for the week of January 2, 2018.
After the reset this week, Players reported a bug that prevented the Nightfall clan engram from unlocking. As such, Bungie has changed the Nightfall strike for this week, moving to The Inverted Spire. The strike modifiers have also been changed. Here are the details on how to complete them:
And here are the challenges:
Original post as follows:
This week in the Nightfall, players are getting something new! The Garden World is the set Nightfall this week, sending Guardians to Mercury to assist Osiris in taking out a rogue Vex Mind. Interestingly enough, the modifiers remain the same as the past two weeks, giving players nearly unlimited access to their supers and abilities, while preventing the timer from being increased. Unfortunately for those that do not currently own the first expansion, this week’s Nightfall is unavailable.
Those that have played through the Garden World campaign mission from the Curse of Osiris expansion will be pretty familiar with this strike, as the enemies, locations, and mission details are largely the same. Players will be heading into the Infinite Forest to take on Vex and Fallen, so expect plenty of enemy resistance. After navigating the corridors, players will ultimately end up back on Mercury with the focus now on Vex and Cabal enemies.
During this segment, players will need to destroy floating vex cubes to remove shields from yellow bar enemies. Simply enter the transparent dome and look up to take out the cube. Players will be repeating this multiple times throughout this section of the missions, using gravity lifts to continue the climb to the top of the tower.
After reaching the top, players will have to contend with the Vex Root Mind, a cyclops style enemy. The Root Mind is capable of moving 360 degrees around the stage and with walls that appear and disappear, players will need to pay attention. Part of the trouble with this boss battle is the enemy mobs that constantly appear, so fireteam members are advised to take out the troops to give themselves enough time to focus fire on the boss. Avoid the big purple laser, take cover often, and players should have this boss down in no time.
Here are the modifier and challenge details:
The player challenges for this week are:
The weekly Flashpoint milestone has moved over to Io this week. To complete this quest, players simply need to take part in Public Events on the chosen world for that week. Finishing the event and triggering the Heroic Modifier also go towards finishing the quest faster, so players should trigger Heroic Events as often as possible.
In addition to the flashpoint, a new set of Cayde’s weekly treasure chests are available on Io. Rewards may vary from exotic engrams to lesser wanted gear like mods and glimmer. Players will need to make sure to visit Cayde before embarking on this task as the maps themselves will first need to be purchased before the icons appear on the world map.
Here’s where to find all five chests this week on Io:
As expected each and every week, the Leviathan Raid encounter order has updated alongside the weekly reset. While this not only helps to keep the experience fresh for veteran players, it also helps players new to the experience get used to the Raid while also giving them an opportunity to play each part even if struggling.
The War Beasts inside of the Pleasure Gardens is the Raid Challenge this week as well. For those who want a leg up in how to complete the challenge, check out our guide here.
This week, the order is as follows:
For players looking for more of a challenge when playing strikes, the Heroic Strikes playlist is the way to go in Destiny 2. Players above the minimum recommended power level of 270 have an opportunity to score better loot at the end of the mission. Complete three of these this week to earn a powerful loot engram.
Heroic Strikes – Complete 3 heroic strikes.
Call to Arms – Win glory by participating, getting kills, and finishing PvP matches from either the Quickplay or Competitive playlists. Finish the milestone and return to Shaxx to earn his weekly engram.
And that’s all for this week. Happy New Year, Guardians!
Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
