Destiny 2: How to Get Bright Dust for Dawning Items

The wintery event known as The Dawning has finally descended on The Tower social space in Destiny 2. The seasonal event is bringing new content with it including the fan favorite Crucible mode called Mayhem, which essentially removes cooldowns from player abilities and supers. Of course, The Dawning also has a lot of new loot to collect as well with the winter-themed gear becoming unavailable once the event wraps up in January. The gear can be found by completing Dawning quests and can also be obtained through microtransactions.

Even though the microtransaction hub called Eververse is a source of controversy and frustration for many Destiny 2 players, it does offer access to the new Dawning gear as well. For those who don’t want to spend hard earned money on engrams, bright dust can be spent instead.  YouTuber Mesa Sean put together a handy video guide offering a few tips on easily earning bright dust to spend on the recently added Dawning engrams from Tess Everis at the Tower.

By this point, players likely have amassed a lot of shaders, consumable items that change the color of weapons, gear, ships, and sparrows. While these can be found out in treasure chests and location vendors like Sloane and Asher Mir, many players earn these items through Bright Engrams after leveling up. Items earned from Eververse and its Bright Engrams can be dismantled for bright dust.

In the video, Mesa Sean goes into his inventory screen, selects the shaders section, and begins to dismantle shaders he’s not interested in using or just doesn’t think looks good. In less than two minutes, he actually gains well over 100 bright dust just by dismantling a few stacks of shaders. For non-Eververse shaders, players instead receive glimmer.

For now, shader dismantling appears to be the fastest and easiest way to earn bright dust for those who don’t want to spend any real money. Players have until January 9 to earn Dawning gear, until it is all placed back in the vault likely until next year.

Destiny 2 is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
