The Walking Dead continues to expand its franchise well into the gaming sphere. Along with Telltale Games’ The Walking Dead: Season Three set to release next month, other developers are actively working to create Walking Dead themed games that will take advantage of the franchise’s hot streak.
Mobile developer, Disruptor Beam, is getting in on the Walking Dead action with an upcoming mobile title, The Walking Dead: March to War. According to Disruptor Beam, The Walking Dead: March to War will be a free-to-play, story-driven strategy game that will task players with surviving on limited resources.
The below trailer for the game teases players with a simple question: “What will you do to survive?” While the trailer itself doesn’t offer any addition information, Disruptor Beam has shared that the game will take place in post-apocalyptic Washington D.C., where players will rebuild their community while fighting off hordes of zombies. Players will be the leader of their group, and need to assemble a team of survivors, including a handful of well-known series characters like Rick and Michonne. The developer claims players will face many challenging moral choices as they work to keep themselves and their communities safe from the various threats that will arise.
Disruptor Beam has a good track record of turning top-name franchises into successful mobile games. The developer is responsible for both Star Trek Timelines and Game of Thrones Ascent, both of which performed well for the developer and franchises. If those games are any indication for what’s coming with The Walking Dead: March to War, players should expect a wait-to-play strategy mobile game not unlike many of the top titles currently available. That means there will also likely be microtransactions included in the game.
The title March to War is the same name as The Walking Dead comic collection volume 19. The events of the comic March to War collection take place at the same time as the upcoming season 7 of The Walking Dead show, which will also take place just outside Washington D.C. With that in mind, gamers can expect The Walking Dead: March to War to coincide at least in some part with The Walking Dead Season 7, which is set to kick off later this month.
