Psychonauts will be coming to PS4 this spring, though an exact month or release date hasn’t been provided. It is likely to hit the PlayStation Store within the next couple of months, but what form it will take is still a mystery at this point. It is possible that Psychonauts on PS4 will be an HD remaster of sorts, or, and this is the more likely scenario, it will join the ranks of the other PS2 games on the PS4.
Regardless of how the original Psychonauts is coming to PS4, fans should expect some additional features that weren’t present in the initial release. This should include a visual upgrade as well as added trophy support if it’s just a port of the original game on PS4, and if it’s a complete HD remaster, perhaps some brand new content that wasn’t seen in the original game.
Whatever the case may be, the re-release of Psychonauts on PS4 is not surprising, as Double Fine and Sony seem to have developed a solid working relationship in regards to the franchise. After all, the recently-announced Psychonauts VR game, Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin, will be exclusive to Sony’s PlayStation VR headset, which should prove valuable as Sony competes for consumer dollars against competitors such as HTC Vive and the Oculus Rift.
It’s also worth noting that the PS-exclusive content for games in the past, and considering this upcoming re-release of the original on PS4 and the PlayStation VR exclusive game, Sony may fight to make PS4 the definitive system to play Psychonauts 2.
There was once a time when Psychonauts 2 was little more than a pipe dream. However, here we are in 2016, and not only are there two new Psychonauts games on the horizon, but fans will also have the chance to relive the first game on a new platform. Here’s hoping Sony releases some more details for Psychonauts on PS4 soon, so fans can know exactly when they can get their hands on the game.
